Senators move to exempt bitcoin, crypto miners from proposed U.S. tax rules – MarketWatch

Supporters of the crypto industry in the U.S. Senate filed an amendment to the bipartisan infrastructure bill to make clear that miners and providers of crypto services would not be required to follow new tax-reporting rules on crypto brokers.

The amendment would “clarify that ‘brokers’ mean only those persons who conduct transactions on exchanges where consumers buy, sell and trade digital assets,” according to a press release.

ADP says U.S. private sector added 330,000 jobs in July, well below expectations – MarketWatch

U.S. private-sector employment increased by 330,000 in July, according to the ADP National Employment report issued Wednesday. The increase was below the 653,000 jobs forecast by economists according to a Wall Street Journal poll.

The gain in July fell well short of the 680,000 new jobs added in June, which was revised lower from an initial estimate of 692,000.

Robinhood surges 50% in second day of wild trading, up 100% this week – CNBC

Robinhood shares soared again Wednesday, extending a wild rally in the newly public stock trading app’s stock. Trading was halted for volatility several times.

The stock closed up 50.4% at $70.39 per share, bringing its weekly gain to more than 100%. Shares of Robinhood touched $85 at one point, an 81% gain from Tuesday’s close.

Amazon is offering $10 in promotional credit to get people to sign up to its palm print payments system. Our sister site TechCrunch spotted the promotional offer and shared a screenshot of it, which you can peep below. The retailer launched Amazon One last fall as a contactless way of authenticating purchases and allowing entry into stores using a biometric device. In this case, a palm scanner. With surface hygiene a major concern during the pandemic, the move made sense.

El Salvador bans pork imports over African swine fever fears – Eagle News

El Salvador said it would ban all imports of pork products Sunday, as cases of the highly contagious African swine fever in the Dominican Republic sparked fears of a wider regional outbreak.  A highly contagious viral disease that affects domestic and wild pigs, African Swine Fever (ASF) is present in parts of Asia, Eastern Europe, and Africa.  A major outbreak in China in 2018 led to the culling of tens of thousands of hogs.

ADB, fin firms draw plan to close Asia coal-fired power plants – Aljazeera

Financial firms, including British insurer Prudential, lenders Citi and HSBC and BlackRock Real Assets are devising plans to speed up the closure of Asia’s coal-fired power plants in order to reduce the biggest source of carbon emissions, five people with knowledge of the initiative said.

The novel proposal, which is being driven by the Asian Development Bank, offers a potentially workable model and early talks with Asian governments and multilateral banks are promising, the sources told Reuters.

China shuts down transport routes as it battles worst Covid outbreak in months – Guardian

China has dramatically tightened travel restrictions as it seeks to control the country’s worst outbreak in months, with hundreds of Delta variant cases linked to airport employees.

The latest outbreak has so far infected more than 400 people in 25 cities, including the capital city, Beijing, and in Wuhan for the first time since it contained the initial Covid-19 outbreak last year. Cases have been reported in 17 of the 31 provinces.
