Experimental vaccine stocks jump on concerns about new virus in China (Sparky1)
Shares of small vaccine makers gained sharply in Tuesday trading over growing concerns about the spread of a new coronavirus in China that has infected at least 200 people.
There have been about 275 confirmed infections and at least six deaths, stemming from an outbreak in Wuhan City in China, according to Chinese authorities. Infections have also been reported in Japan, South Korea, and Thailand. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed Tuesday that a U.S. resident who had traveled to Wuhan has been diagnosed with the virus. He lives and is being treated in Washington state.

West Virginia lawmakers are scrambling to let rural Virginia counties join the Mountain State amid conservative voter anger with the new Democratic majority in Richmond and its push for gun control and other liberal initiatives.
In a building fight that echoes the Civil War-era split of the Old Dominion that created West Virginia in 1863, 40 of 100 West Virginia House delegates have signed on to legislation that would accept revolting Virginia counties and towns.
Amazon just filed a bunch of international trademarks for ‘Amazon Pharmacy’ (Sparky1)
Amazon has filed to trademark “Amazon Pharmacy” in Canada, the U.K. and Australia, signaling a potential move into selling prescription drugs outside of the U.S.
According to the Canadian Intellectual Property Office website, Amazon filed for the patent on Jan. 9, 2020. The status is listed as pre-formalized.

Yesterday (Jan. 21), Airtel received the government’s nod to raise 100% foreign direct investment (FDI), it said in a filing to the stock exchanges. “Bharti Airtel has received approval from the department of telecommunications (DoT)…for increasing the limit of foreign investment up to 100% of the paid-up capital of the company,” the filing read.

Arizona’s biggest utility says it will get all of its electricity from carbon-free sources by 2050 (jasonw)
After spending millions of dollars to quash a renewable energy ballot initiative just two years ago, Arizona’s biggest electricity provider announced Wednesday that it will seek to produce all of its power from carbon-free sources by the middle of the century.
Arizona Public Service laid out an ambitious plan to wean itself entirely off fossil fuels over the next three decades, with the intermediate goal of getting nearly two-thirds of its electricity from nuclear and renewable sources by 2030.
