Firearms Training: Oct 18-21, 2019

Last year, roughly 25 Peak Prosperity readers gathered in the Nevada desert for an an intensive 4-day gun safety and training course.

We learned a ton. Mostly, how poorly prepared we were to use a handgun before taking the course.

And we had a ton of fun, too, as the photos below show.

The experience was so useful and enjoyable that we’re doing it again this year. And we’ve just finalized the dates: October 18-21, 2019.

Like last year, the excursion is being produced for us by Firearms Training Advocates. FTA’s mission is to increase firearms safety through professional training.

Given record recent gun sales in the US, FTA believes it’s critically important to their own safety and the safety of others, that firearms owners receive professional training. In support of this goal, FTA offers access to world-class firearms training courses in Nevada, outside Las Vegas.

Last year, we all took a defensive handgun training course. This year, there’s an added tactical shotgun option. You can pick either.

Specifically, here’s what FTA has put together for us:

Program:
- 4-day Defensive Handgun (many attendees from last year are thinking of taking this again)
- 4-day Tactical Shotgun
Program Costs:
- Program fee:
  - FREE to PP members attending for the first time (a $2,000 value)
  - Returning PP members can still receive the same $997 discounted Front Sight lifetime membership deal ($thousands in savings)
- Firearm rental = FREE to PP members (a $169 value). You can bring your own gun(s), if you wish.
- Ammunition = you can purchase bullets/shells from FTA at a discount and they will be waiting at the range for you (pricing TBA)
- Background check fee: $50 (this is mandatory)
Travel, Meals and Lodging: You’ll need to pick these up. FTA is arranging a hotel (the Silverton in Las Vegas) where we can get a group discount.

We’ll all be participating in the same Peak Prosperity group for this long weekend — we’ll head out to ranges together, eat meals together, and stay at the same hotel.

And we’re pretty much getting the firearms training experience for free. You’ll just need to get yourself there, and pay for your background check and ammunition, meals and lodging.

Just wanted to again say thanks to Adam and Peak Prosperity for arranging the Front Sight event. I am so much more comfortable and confident handling a pistol now, and truly enjoyed meeting and being with other members from Peak Prosperity. The conversations with Chris in the van going back and forth to Front Sight were the best part! ~ Brad

The instructors here are fantastic. They exude professionalism at every step of the training. Their process is mentoring as much as instructing. Safety is stressed in everything they do. All their rules are illustrated with anecdotes about what has happened (elsewhere) when someone ignored one of the rules.

We’ve learned about basic safety, proper technique, clearing malfunctions and lots more. We’ve also had presentations on the legal, moral and ethical aspects of gun use. They’re mandatory for anyone who wants to go on to a concealed carry license. ~ Rich

Wow…what an experience….I am worn out. Just now on the plane and able to get on the internet for the first time since this started. Sand Puppy you were a great partner and showed great improvement throughout the course. Dave you obviously remember this course pretty well…they definitely went through the malfunction drills enough that I now believe that most homeowners who rarely use a firearm would be better served with a revolver than the automatics we were using (but is nice to be able to fire 17 shots at one time).
