My Personal Early Warning System

If you want to know, before other people, when something is about to change or break, you have to know where to look. In this video, I explain the “outside in” method of looking at the periphery for clues about when things might break down either sooner or harder.

This method applies to individual organisms, financial systems, countries – you name it. Simply keep your attention focused on the weakest element of any system and you’ll get an early warning as to when it is preparing to break down.

This is how I knew things were breaking in 2008 well before the conventional news and popular opinion had managed to catch up with reality.

My attention is now firmly focused on junk debt, poor housing stock, levels of homelessness, weak countries, and marginal companies. These are the places I watch for early clues about what’s going to happen next.

Then I explore the degree of unseriousness that our middle and upper layers of political and media management are displaying. They are simply not serious people at a time when we desperately need serious adults running things.

Since that’s not the case, we have to conclude that things aren’t going to magically get better. Things are going to continue in their general direction until something actually serious happens. By then, it will be too late to do anything but clear up the mess.

Did I already mention you should plant a garden? If not, plant a garden. And settle in for a marathon because none of these events will play out terribly quickly. Barring some miracle, this is kind of how I see things going for the rest of our lives.
