Is the coronavirus the pin that will end the 10 year-long Everything Bubble?
Quite possibly, cautions Sven Henrick, technical analyst and lead market strategist for Northman Trader.
For too many years now, the financial markets have been conditioned that “dips don’t last”. Confident that the Fed will always provide the liquidity needed to push assets higher, investors have come to believe that risk doesn’t matter.
Well, covid-19 is exactly the kind of unexpected exogenous shock that central banks are powerless against. No amount of intervention by the Fed, the ECB or the PBoC will slow the spread of the virus, or force-start factories idle from workers quarantines.
So, what to expect from here? In terms of damage to market prices, we haven’t seen anything yet, predicts Sven.
And today’s failed recovery is a sign that the previously-bulletproof market ‘exuberance’ of the past decade is now losing out to ‘fear’.
Combine further spread of the virus with continued de-celeration of global trade, then “all bets are off” warns Sven.

Probably one of the most vexing things an obvious crisis like this coronavirus pandemic (well, obvious to you and us, at any rate) is all the people who refuse to face it. They'll exploit every possible psychological defense in their arsenal to resist discussing or even hearing about the crisis. They will ignore you. They will belittle you. They will try to subtly – or overtly – shame you for attempting to raise the issue with them. Here's why that happens and what you should do about it. First,... (Enroll now to continue reading)
David Scranton notes that until recently most investors had too much confidence in the rapid eradication of the Corona Virus. We didn’t factor in that it could be take much longer. Is this the Black Swan that we’ve all been waiting for? Is David a stopped clock or a Chicken Little? It’s not the tipping point that causes a change, but perhaps it’s the rationalization for it. Emotions are constant and that’s why history tends to rhyme.
Gold skyrocketed during Monday’s session going up nearly $50 the ounce only to return back to earth with a more modest gain. Mining stocks are still not moving, but with what’s going on in the world, it probably won’t be long before the next move. Cyclical forces are getting ready to overwhelm seasonal influences. We might get a break and a modest decline, but then get ready to rumble!
On the political front, Bernie McGovern appears to have carried Nevada by a large measure, but will be enough to insure that he carries the nomination. If he does manage to wrangle it away from the elites and Nanny Bloomberg, he will then have a bigger problem on his hands. It’s the elites that harvest the votes and insure that the dead rise from the grave to cast their votes and the illegals get to have their say. There’s no way that they are going to work their magic for Bernie McGovern and that means an even larger Trump landslide. Stay tuned!
Finally, I talked about my recent bout with seemingly benign prescription drugs sending me for a loop, lowering my blood pressure and causing fatigue and a lack of energy. Beware, even drugs that appear to be extremely safe can have greatly negative effects. You need to regularly review all your drugs with your internist, specialist and pharmacist.

Last week, we told you about the rising level of subprime auto loan delinquencies. Well, there is a similar thing happening in the subprime credit card market. Is this the proverbial canary in a coal mine? Balances more than 30-days delinquent on credit cards issued by the roughly 4,500 banks smaller than the top-100 surged […]
Stock markets tanked on Monday. The Dow Jones was down over 1031 points. It was the biggest drop in two years for the Dow. The Nasdaq shed 355 points. The S&P500 was down 111. As stocks dropped, the bond market was red-hot. Prices soared and yields dipped to record lows. Bonds are considered a safe-haven, […]
OK…despite more worldwide infections than ever, the WHO has decided to stop using the (technically very accurate) term “pandemic” to describe covid-19, presumably because they don’t want to scare folks.
The CDC is claiming that the US is not seeing “community level” spreading of the virus. But of course it isn’t, because it’s NOT testing at the community level. And only 3 US states currently have the capacity to run such tests, due to faulty kits being provided to the other states.
Then there’s State Department’s botched rescue of US citizens stuck on the Diamond Princess cruise ship, during which poor safety controls allowed 25 more folks to get infected on the flight back to the US.
And these are the authorities we’re depending on??
China, meanwhile, is lowering response levels in several provinces, setting the stage for workers to head back to the factories. BUT…they’ve postponed the National People’s Conference. So, it’s still too serious for the the ‘important’ people to be in public, but the plebes have nothing to worry about??
China is facing a lose-lose decision: maintain their widespread quarantines to contain the virus, but kill their economy? Or send people back to work, and risk infecting millions more?
Today, the markets *finally* started to show concern for the hit global trade is taking from this growing crisis. If the euphoria pushing markets to new highs is dissipating, there is an awful lot of empty space below today’s asset prices compared to their fundamentals-based valuations. Translation = the markets can fall a LOT farther from here.
To reiterate our guidance: the time to prepare — physically and financially — is NOW. As China, Italy, South Korea, Iran and other countries are showing us, a government lockdown happens swiftly, slamming shut your window to act.
Use the time you still have as the precious gift it is, and strengthen your preparations.
If you’ve not yet read it, Chris explains what he’s focusing on in his recent report Why I’m Ramping Up My Coronavirus Preparations, available to Peak Prosperity’s premium subscribers.

Last year at the Vancouver Resource Investment Conference, Peter Schiff bet Brent Johnson a gold coin that the Fed’s next move would be a rate cut. At this year’s conference, Peter collected his gold coin. Brent and Peter went on to debate the future of the US dollar. Brent says the dollar will go up […]
